Most people know about schadenfreude, taking guilty pleasure at someone’s pain or misfortune. Gluckschmerz is the flip side: feeling bad about someone’s good fortune. “Gluck” is luck, “schmerz” is the pain, as in weltschmerz, or world pain, that is, world weariness–sick of it all.
